New Haven Tree LIghting Celebration

Thursday, November 29, 2018 -
3:00pm to 8:30pm

The City of New Haven Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism and Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees will be hosting the City’s annual Tree Lighting event Thursday, November 29 (inclement weather date Friday, November 30) on the lower New Haven Green. The free event is scheduled for 4-8pm and typically brings thousands to downtown to enjoy live performances, holiday crafts and more. 

Costumed Characters
(Afternoon & Evening) Costumed Characters & Handlers: Dress up as your favorite holiday character – Frosty the Snowman, Ruduloph and the Holiday Bear!  These characters will need handlers to keep an eye on them while they interact with the public.

Hayride/Horse Drawn Carriage Singers
(Afternoon & Evening) Outgoing volunteers who enjoy working with children and families will lead holiday songs on hayrides.  Lyrics will be provided, you bring the holiday spirit!

Santa’s House
(Afternoon & Evening) Guide children and families as they visit with Santa in his cottage.

Storytelling            
(Afternoon & Evening) Read stories to children from a large rocking chair.

Set Up/Break Down
(Afternoon & Evening) Help the staff set up and breakdown the event site.

Volunteer Requirements: 
Please be aware that you may need to be flexible in case of cancellations or a need for extra help in a different location.
